“In January 2021, my Dad, Nigel Cubbon was looked after by the Hospice at Home team. They were absolutely fantastic, at the most devastating and heart-breaking time in myself and my family’s lives, the nurses were compassionate, calm and reassuring.

Previous to this, Dad had used the Hospice Drop In sessions at the Day Unit, where he could come, relax and speak to people in similar situations and also raise any concerns about how he may have been feeling. Each nurse that came to care for Dad, when he was receiving end of life care, had the time to speak to him, make him laugh and also listen to what he had to say where he took delight in telling them about my recent dancing qualification.

The nurses also took the time to make sure myself and my Mum, Liz were as ok as we could be. We felt we were genuinely cared about as a family and that my Dad was important to them. It was also reassuring to know the team were only at the other end of the phone if there we any issues or concerns.

In his final days Dad was made comfortable and peaceful by the amazing Hospice Nurses, at home, surrounded by his loved ones.

I have also personally used Hospice bereavement services, which I would whole heartedly recommend, it is a safe space to reflect, have a little cry and remember my Dad. Sometimes it’s sad and there’s tears but sometimes its happy reminiscing about my wonderful Dad and happier times.

I am also very proud to say I now work for Hospice, I am the Community Fundraiser and have worked here for a year now, I absolutely love it. I feel like I can give back to such a special and amazing charity. I am excited to be a part of the 40th Anniversary and to see what the future holds.”
